Bringing Joy to the Healing

”Could This Really Be Happening On My Sisters Wedding Day”

All the plans had been made and the whole family was anxiously awaiting the chuppah (wedding canopy). Leah*, just twenty years old, had looked forward to the occasion almost as much as her sister herself. Instead, Leah found herself admitted to her local hospital just hours before he ceremony was to begin.

Could this terrible tragedy really be happening… on my sister’s wedding day? Leah’s prognosis was excellent, and doctors assured her she could leave the hospital soon… but there was no way she would be able to attend her sister’s wedding that night. Leah’s aunt called the one person who had a reputation for being able to make the impossible happen: Rabbi Isaac Leider.

Rabbi Leider decided that if Leah is unable to go to the wedding, then the wedding must come to her. He obtained permission from the hospital administration and drew upon one of his many expert contacts. In a race against time, he arranged a satellite hookup between the wedding hall and the hospital, providing Leah a real-time view of the ceremony and festivities, and making her feel a part of the simcha.
